- CBC
- Urine microscopy
- Urine culture
- Blood culture
- USG
Organisms responsible
1. E.coli
2. Klebsiella
3. Proteus
4. Enterobacter
5. Pseudomonas
6. Enterococcus faecalis
7. Staphylococcus aureus
Urinary Tract Infection Treatment
In patients who are seriously ill
High grade fever, tachycardia and hypotension
1. Ceftazidime 1gm IV Q 8-12H or Cefeparazone with Sulbactum 1-2gms IV Q12H or Cefpirome 1-2gm Q 12H IV or Gentamicin/Netilmycin/Tobramycin 3-5mg/kg/day IV OD/ Amikacin 15mg/kg/day IV OD Or Ofloxacin 400mg IV Q12 Or
2. Piperacillin 12-16gm/day IV in four divided doses + Gentamicin/Netilmycin/Tobramycin 3-5mg/kg/day IV OD/ Amikacin 15mg/kg/day IV OD Ciprofloxacin 400mg IV Q12H Or
3. Ciprofloxacin 400mg IV Q12H+ Gentamicin/ Tobramycin 3-5mg/kg/day IV OD or Amikacin 15mg/kg/day IV OD
Milder UTI are treated with
Ciprofloxacin 500mg PO Q12H or
Ofloxacin 200mg PO Q12H or
Cotrimoxazole DS PO Q12H
